8:00 pm. The PPCRV (Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting) in Aurora is doing a great job in covering the local elections. The church-run DZJO-FM have been monitoring the election nonstop since the early morning and they have all the province covered through the different parishes in all the municipalities. The election is generally peaceful in Aurora asides from some minor problems that were easily resolved. Partial results of the senatorial race are being announced. They are still waiting for the official local partial results.

Radyo Natin, the other radio station in Baler is periodically interrupting their national broadcast to update on the counting of votes in the different precincts in Baler and other municipalities. The results are still too few to establish a trend or to give a picture of the final results of the counting. The numbers are still in 2 digits.

4:00 pm. An hour after voting period ends, the two local radio stations are already updating from the different areas of the Province. Reporters are commenting on the low turnout of voters. Counting of votes starts in some precincts. DZJO-FM is covering the election non-stop since this morning. Radyo Natin is doing an hourly roundup.

1:30 pm. Over at Radyo Natin, Otonsky Leander was wondering over the unusual large numbers of people in the voting places wearing red shirts. Election still peaceful and orderly throughout the province.

12:12 pm. From Radyo Natin Baler, Larry Marco reported a problem in Baler Central School when one voter found out that his name was already used by another unknown voter. It was immediately resolved by invalidating the first vote casted and letting the real person vote using his own name. Otonski Leander reported that the indelible inks being used can be easily erased using thinner and soap.

11:23 AM. Just got back from my alma mater, Suklayin Elementary School, where i voted. The atmosphere inside the school was very peaceful. DZJO-FM is broadcasting a special program related to the election. The parish priests of the different catholic churches in the Province are hosting the program. They are discussing different issues related to the election.

9:30 AM.Stay tuned to this blog as I will try to live blog the events of the election here in Baler and the rest of Aurora Province. I’ll be getting most of my info from the two radio stations here in Baler – DZJO-FM and Radyo Natin Baler. I’ll also contact some of my media friends for some updates.

In this GMAnew.tv report, 6 out of 8 towns in Aurora Province were declared as hotspot or “areas of immediate concern”. The only two towns not in the list are Baler and Ma. Aurora.

There are 101, 928 registered voters in Aurora, according to this very useful Inquirer.net Election Map. Baler has 16,842 registered voters. Casiguran has 11,461; Dilasag 6,853; Dinalungan 5,712; Dingalan 11,897; Dipaculao 13,116; Ma. Aurora 19,649 and San Luis 11,716.

The complete list of the local candidates in Aurora can be seen here. Compare it to the local candidates in the 2004 election.

This early, we’re already sure about two wins: Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara in the lone congressional seat of the Province and Nelianto “Pilot” C. Bihasa in the Vice Mayoralty seat of Baler. Both are running unopposed.

As of 9:25 am, Larry Marco of Radyo Natin reported that Sen. Edgardo J. Angara and Sonny Angara already casted their vote at their respective precincts.
