Estriber’s News Goes International

The news of Joey Estriber’s abduction/kidnapping is now in different international online media. His abduction is the topic of different radio programs here in Baler but there’s still no news on what happened to him.

From the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX): Radio anchorman abducted. “Radio anchor abducted as Arroyo rescinds state of emergency in the Philippines. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is concerned for the safety of abducted radio anchorman Joey Estriber from Baler town in Aurora province in the Philippines.” (read the complete news)

From Reporters without Borders (France): Kidnapping of journalist who condemned deforestation. “ Reporters Without Borders is very concerned about the kidnapping of environmental specialist Joey Estriber, a radio presenter in Aurora province, north-east of Manila, who condemned uncontrolled deforestation that caused the recent tragic landslides in the Philippines.” (read complete news)

From Committee to Protect Journalist (New York): CPJ calls for release of abducted radio journalist. “The Committee to Protect Journalists called on the Philippine authorities today to work for the release of kidnapped radio commentator Joey Estriber.”

“Four unidentified men seized Estriber on March 3 in Baler, the capital of Aurora province, 125 miles (200 kilometers) northeast of Manila, local media reported. Estriber cried out for help as he was bundled into a waiting van in the center of town. Estriber, 37, anchors a radio news program on radio station DZJO in Baler and is also works with non-governmental organizations campaigning against large-scale mining and illegal logging in the province.” (read the complete news)
