With the dwindling number of provinces that can claim purity in air, water, and land, it is a wonder that a province so close to Metro Manila can still boast of these attributes. Aurora Province, once part of Quezon province, is bent on flaunting these virtues. It is also determined to protect them.

More updates: There are two candidates from Aurora, Sheryl Rose Guerrero from Baler and Athena Mae D. Imperial from Casiguran, however there were infos that Ms. Imperial appeared at Unang Hirit this morning sporting a Nueva Ecija sash. We’re still confirming.
Well, it was confirmed that Ms. Imperial is a candidate from Aurora. She didn’t wear a Nueva Ecija sash.

There was a sabutan gown design competition during the media presentation, and Sheryl Rose Guerrero of Aurora won the award for wearing the best designed sabutan attire (read the comments, the award she won was explained) . Cong. Sonny angara and Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo presented the award. Sheryl or She-She is a Certified Public Accountant.

Update: In keeping with Batangbaler’s tradition of integrity (naks!) we would like to correct that Ms. Sheryl Rose Guerrero, did not win the Best in Sabutan Gown award during the press presentation of the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2009 at the Shangri-La Hotel Last July 29. What was given to her was the Aurora Beauty Award, which, despite of it’s name is not exclusive for the candidates from Aurora. It’s just a coincidence that she won it. Let’s be clear about that. The winner of the sabutan attire competition will be announced during the coronation night on August 9. 6 foreigners nabbed for poaching in RP waters

Awesome Aurora!

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

from Manila Bulletin:

It is not often we hear this province being promoted as a vacation and touring destination. We heard it made news when a foreign movie “Apocalypse Now,” (stars Robert Duval and Charlie Sheen) chose it as a location for a scene. Same is true with a local-award-winning movie “Baler.” Oftentimes, it lands on headlines when it has been battered by typhoons, landslides and shaken by a recent earthquake.

Little did we know that this province in the North Eastern most of Luzon is an awesome mixture of history, nature, and beauty! A place that is awesome as Aurora!

from LGUs urged to enact reproductive health measures

Aurora Governor Bellaflor Angara-Castillo, a former congresswoman, on Wednesday called on local officials that it’s their constituents who are suffering while Congress sits on the reproductive health (RH) bill.

Aurora province, where Castillo is governor, was the first province that successfully passed a reproductive health program. The ordinance is the same as HB 5043 because it makes available artificial contraceptives, conducts training and seminars to local health workers, and does an RH education campaign among the youth.
