Historical Data of Casiguran 1952

In 2006 I posted “Historical Data of Baler 1952-1953“, the source of which was then unknown since I just discovered it in my old hard disk. Later snooping led me to the copies of the original documents in the National Library. And the document was not alone. There’s also the same historical data for Casiguran and Maria Aurora. For this post, I will slowly encode the Historical Data of Casiguran from 1952. It’s longer than the Baler document so visit this page from time to time until it’s complete.

No record of its establishment and change of boundaries can be given to date as no informer could be found in this locality. However, the town of Casiguran was onve uncer th province of Nueva Viscaya. But sometime in the year 1905 or 1908 the boundary of Quezon province was extended to the north so as to include Casiguran.

As far as could be remenbered by the informer, the province was ruled by the following governors: Hon. Manuel Quezon, Lucban, Abastillas, Filemon Perez, Maximo Rodriguez, Leon Guinto, Dr. Casiano Sandoval, Hilarion Yanza, Gregorio Santayana, and Vicente Constantino. Other officials who served in the province were Representatives Fabian Millar, Jose Angara, Francisco Lavidez, Primitovo San Agustin and Rafael Villar. Some of the outstanding citizens of the province were Don Filemon Perez r., MAnuel Quezon, Don Justo Lucban, Vicente Lucban, Mrs. Aurora Quezon, Gregorio Sena, Elias Desembrana, Fortunato Suarez, Dr. cAsiano Sandoval and Jose Angara.

No further information could be gathered about the province in this municipality as there are no available informers.

Christmas @ The Capitol

Pamaskong Handog ng PGA

We were invited as one of the judges in the Lantern Making Contest organized by the Provincial Capitol as part of this year’s Paskong Handog ng PGA last December 8. It’s the first day of the program that also includes the lighting of the giant Christmas tree, a program for kids featuring the Jollibee mascot, Christmas bazaar and nightly shows at the Capitol grounds.

Almost thirty lanterns made from recyclable materials were entered in the competition. There’s supposed to be a lantern parade but rains caused by typhoon Ruby got in the way. The “parols” were judged based on originality, craftsmanship and use of recycled/recyclable materials, and overall impact.

Relatives of former Aurora Governor Edgardo “Eddie” L. Ong announced his passing yesterday, October 2, 2013, at the age of 61 due to liver failure. His remains will be brought to Baler today, October 3, for a two-day wake at the Provincial Capitol.

“Gov Eddie” was the Vice Governor of Aurora province from 1987 until 1991 when he succeeded as Governor due to the death of then Governor Eunice Guerrero-Cucueco. He was later elected as Governor on 1992 and served three full terms until 2001.

Born on July 25, 1952 at Baler, former Governor Eddie Ong was the fourth child of Lt. Governor Estrello Ong and Natalia Lumasac Ong. He was married to Ramoncita “Chit” Ong who also served as Aurora Governor from 2001 to 2004. They have three children, Michael, Christine and Gian Carlo.

Update: The remains of former Governor Eddie Ong will lie in state at the Sangguning Panlalawigan hall, Provincial Capitol Baler, Aurora until Friday night. On Saturday, he will be transferred back to Manila and will be buried at the Heritage Memorial Park, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City next week.

Google Earth Images of Aurora Province

I’ve been monitoring Google Earth for sometime waiting for high resolution photos of Baler and other towns in Aurora. Last year they updated the low-res images of Baler to slightly better but still low def satellite photos taken in 2010. This month, the images of Baler and some parts of San Luis and Dipaculao were again updated with the same crappy and now black and white photos. But, while Google Earth provides no joy for Aurora’s capital town, some places, especially up north are getting nice snapshots. Here are some screencaps I made for your viewing pleasures. Click on the images to biggify and see if you can spot your roof in the pictures.
