San Miguel Beer's annual Fiesta offering. Last year they brought Bernardo Carpio, a band
that nobody knows. And to make up for that this year they have Orient Pearl, a band we
used to know. The gig was also supported by the usual local bands. The Grounds is a Top 40
rock band from Maria.
Alvin Morada of Badfish. A good local band now stuck in the Sublime and Bob Marley mode.
The small but terrible Naldy and the rest of the band livens up the crowd by singing
today's hits.
About half a year ago, I was with my friend Mets in this Timog bar called Kilimajaro
enjoying a couple of bottles of Cervesa Negra and listening to the live three person band
fronted by a lady. Then she called Naldy of Orient Pearl to sing some songs. And he did,
for the rest of the night actually. He sang those classic love songs like Sometimes When
We Touch, On the Wings of Love, etc. with the help of her girlfriend. Nothing really, I
just want to share the experience.
The stage was set on stacks of cargo pallets near the seawall in Bay's Inn. they planned
to charge entrance fees for the concert but decided to make it a free one when they were
alerted that the Capitol guys will collect amusement taxes.
Ten years after their last hit song, the band still rocks. They gave a great performance
while the audience were busy downing their draft beers.
The SMB guys also held a beer drinking contest. It was a type of drinking relay where two
teams tried to down 5 beers in the least possible time. The Dipaculao team won with 1min
and 30 secs. Vic of SMB announced that the national champions last year did it in 35
seconds.
