7 hurt as van falls into ravine in Aurora

At least seven people were hurt after their van fell into a ravine in Aurora province Friday afternoon, radio dzRH reported on Saturday.

The report quoted authorities as saying that the blue Mitsubishi Delica van (RFY-281) was heading for Casiguran town from Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija when it went out of control at about 3:30 p.m., Friday.

The van, which police believed to be a “colorum,” or was being driven without a license, crashed in Dinadiawan village in Dipaculao, a fourth-class town with a population of 23,064 people in 4,796 households.

Canadian Medical Mission. Three doctors from Canada recently held a week-long medical mission in different Barangays of Baler. Dr. Elmer Roque from Vancouver Island and his two doctor friends from Edmonton gave free medical services and medicines with the assisance of the local government. Dr. Elmer Roque is the youngest son of Alice Angara and justine Roque. Pictures to follow.

LTO Impounds 200 vehicles. From the Journal Online by Mamer Bañez. Aurora LTO chief Renato Macalisang said their action was based on the numerous complaints of various sectors regarding the rudeness of undisciplined drivers and the proliferation of colorum public utility vehicles. Macalisang said many of the vehicles they impounded were dilapiladed, without franchises, unregistered, out of line and with fake official receipts and certificates of registration. My comment: It should be noted that the reason why there are so many drivers without licenses in Aurora is that for years, the local LTO has no facility to issue licenses. If you live in Aurora and you want to get a license, you still have to go to Palayan City or Cabanatuan to apply. I don’t know why.

Angara allots budget to construct school in Aurora. SENATOR Edgardo Angara has allotted budget for the construction of a University of the Philippines- School of Health Sciences (UP-SHS) in the province of Aurora. Fifty-million pesos will be allotted to UP Manila for the establishment of the UP-SHS Aurora, while an additional P100 million will be allotted for the construction of its training hospital.
